I heard about the fruitless efforts of attending conference after conference and generating interested leads… only to have the next big deal fall through for one reason or another.

And for most of my life, I thought it was just bad luck.

There are a lot of copywriters and marketers who will be happy to work with anyone who can sign their name on a check.  I’m not one of them.

Here are a few types of marketers that I don’t work with.

Scam Artists.  If you don’t believe 100% in the product or information you’re selling, then I don’t want anything to do with you.  Just because you can make a lot of money selling something that doesn’t help people, doesn’t mean you have a right to do it.

The marketing techniques I use work like magic to sell anything… but I’m only interested in using my powers for good, as the expression goes.

Just because you can fill a king-sized mattress with hundred dollar bills doesn’t help you sleep better at night…

Plus, when I decide to work with a client, I’m in it for the long haul.  I want to make a lot of money together and help a lot of people.  We can’t do that if you’re going to get shut down for fraud.

Complete Rookies:  If you’re just getting started, I applaud you.  I love the entrepreneurial spirit it takes to get off your butt and take action to achieve your dreams…

But we’re not going to be a good match.

I love helping newbie marketers, but I’m not interested in funding a start-up.  There are bumps and bruises along the path to success, and right now I’m only taking on clients who have taken a few knocks in business and have proven that they can get back up and keep moving.

I love hearing “you helped us finally break the 7 (or 8) figure mark” so I choose to only work with clients who I can help hit that quickly.

I’ve had the extraordinarily frustrating experience of a client who wasn’t willing to spend enough money to make his project a success.

That doesn’t mean we’re going to blindly throw money at a project an hope it works… actually we’re going to do the exact opposite.  Every cent we spend on the project is going to be a calculated investment with a clear objective of how much money it needs to bring back in.

But I will quickly walk away from any project if you show me you don’t believe in it enough to cover appropriate marketing costs.
